Italian painter, Roman school (b. 1602, Bevagna, d. 1649, Roma) Andrea Camassei (1602-1649) was an Italian painter of the Baroque, who was mainly active in Rome under the patronage of the Barberini. He was born in Bevagna. He was active in painting in the Palazzo Barberini as well as in Antonio Barberini's favored church, Santa Maria della Concezione, where he painted the Assumption of the Virgin on the dome. His training was under Domenichino, but he also labored under the direction of Sacchi and Pietro da Cortona. He painted a Triumph of Constantine for the Baptistery of the Lateran Palace. He painted for the Taddeo Barberini, two large canvases (1638-39) depicting Massacre of the Niobids and Hunt of Diana. 1829-1898 English painter. He studied with J. M. Leigh (1808-60) from 1847 and in January 1851 enrolled at the Royal Academy Schools. In 1852 Marks and P. H. Calderon spent five months studying in Paris under Fran?ois-Edouard Picot and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. The next year he made his d?but at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, where he exhibited annually until 1897. He was elected ARA in 1871 and RA in 1878.
Robert Dampier
(1799 - 1874) was a British artist and clergyman. Dampier was born in 1799 at the village of Codford St Peter in Wiltshire, England He was baptised on the 20th of Dec. 1799 (LDS IGI record batch # C014402). He was one of 13 children of Codford St Peter's rector Reverend John Dampier (1763-1839) and his wife Jane. In 1819 he went to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil as a clerk. In 1825, he was picked up in Rio to be the expedition artist on the English ship HMS Blonde under the command of Captain George Anson Byron. The ship was returning the bodies of King Kamehameha II and Queen Kamemalu to the Hawaiian islands (known by the British as "Sandwich Islands"), after both died from measles during a visit to England. Robert Dampier spent 11 weeks in Hawaii painting portraits in oil paint and making pencil drawings of landscapes. After returning to England, he studied law at Cambridge University and then was ordained in the Church of England. He married Sophia Francis Roberts in 1828. In 1837 he became rector of Langton Matravers church. Circa 1843 they had a daughter Juliana Sophia, His wife Sophia died in 1864, and he married again in 1872. He had a daughter Frederika from the second marriage. Although employed a rector, he continued to sketch until his death in 1874. Major works by Robert Dampier are held by the Honolulu Academy of Arts and Washington Place, also in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Henri-Pierre Danloux
(February 24, 1753 - January 3, 1809) was a French painter and draftsman. He was born in Paris. Brought up by his architect uncle, Danloux was a pupil of Lepicie and later of Vien, whom he followed to Rome in 1775. In 1783, he returned to Lyon and Paris, where he was patroned by the Baronne Megret de Serilly d'Etigny, who secured for him a number of important portrait commissions. He emigrated to London in 1792 during the French Revolution and returned to Paris in 1801. Danloux was influenced by fashionable English portrait painters such as Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830), John Hoppner (1758-1810), and George Romney (1734-1802). In 1793, he exhibited at the Royal Academy in London which resulted in commissions from a number of British patrons. Danloux returned to Paris in 1801, and died there in 1809.
